Start Karting

If you are thinking of buying a kart, do not go out and buy the first kart you see, consider doing a couple of hire kart sessions and visiting a race meeting at the circuit to look at the classes that are most popular and the standard of the karts being used.

There are classes for most ages and sizes and most importantly budget. Remember when considering which kart to buy you are also going to need a helmet, suit and gloves. Two of the junior starter classes that we promote at Bayford Meadows are the Honda Cadet (Ages 8-11) and the Junior Subaru class (Ages 11-16). You can also download the Start Karting brochure to get yourself started.

Before you race you will need to successfully complete an ARKS (Association of Racing Kart Schools) test. The first thing you need to do is purchase a Start Karting Pack from the sports governing body the MSA, telephone 01753 765000 to order your pack. This will give you the all the information that you require to pass the test.

Bayford Meadows ARKS Kart School

Bayford Meadows Kart School has been set up to provide structured driver training and tuition to young people and adults alike. Its aim is to provide training that will lead to the driver attaining the necessary standard to obtain an MSA competition licence. Advice will also be given on obtaining a licence, joining a club and attending a race meeting.

The tuition is given by instructors who have been involved in karting for many years and who hold manufacturing, racing and competition experience. Tuition is one-to-one enabling the driver to get the maximum attention from the instructor. All karts and equipment are supplied to suit the driver’s age and ability.

All karts and equipment are provided by LICA motorsport who prepare the latest specification karts to suit the drivers age and current ability.

Drivers have to obtain an MSA licence before taking part in competitions. In order to gain a licence a driver must take an ARKS (Association of Racing Kart Schools) test. The test consists of both a written test and a practical driving test and lasts approximately three hours. The test can be arranged and taken at Bayford Meadows once the required standard at the school has been reached and further details will be given to the driver as and when it is felt appropriate.
